Turmeric is sure to be the superfood of 2017, and it’s a good thing, too. With inflammation as the root cause of some of the most serious illnesses of our century, we are going to need it!
Turmeric’s golden colour is just one reason why this superfood root gets a gold star of approval—who doesn’t want to add a pop of colour to their lattes or leaks? For that, we have curcumin to thank: the active ingredient that gives turmeric its gorgeous hue. But it’s about more than looks, turmeric is a potent detoxifier to our beloved livers, and of course, is a major anti-inflammatory remedy!
Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties have been as effective as pharmaceutical-grade drugs (like hydrocortisone), making it a potent and natural remedy for any inflammatory conditions like arthritis, Alzheimer’s, inflammatory bowel disease, and cancer.
As a whole food, turmeric can be dried and used ground, or can be chopped up or grated and used fresh in almost any mea! But, if eating the whole food just isn’t your style, you can still get the benefits of this sought-out root as one of the key ingredients in NU Life’s Inflammation Support formula, specifically designed to target gut health.
The NU Life Inflammation Support formula achieves its effectiveness by combining turmeric with anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, since turmeric is better absorbed when it teams up with a healthy fat, like omega-3s, coconut oil, or ghee.
And now for the best part… who wouldn’t want to drink an anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and liver-loving latte that will get us vibrant from the inside-out? Here’s the recipe for a delicious turmeric latte:
½ ‘’ piece fresh turmeric root (peeled) or 1 tsp ground
1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
½ tbsp. coconut oil
½ tbsp. ghee
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp raw honey or maple syrup
A pinch of black pepper
In a small saucepan, heat the almond milk on medium to high heat until it starts to boil. Once it’s boiled, transfer to a high speed blender. Add in turmeric, coconut oil, ghee, cinnamon, raw honey, and a pinch of black pepper. Blend on high. Serve in your favourite mug, sip, & feel healthier just by drinking it.
