FAQs
Q. I hear there are different kinds of VITAMIN D. What are they?
A. There is one kind called Vitamin D2 ergocalciferol. This form is not as active as the second kind called Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol. Nu-Life uses the Vitamin D3 in all its supplements
Q. Vitamin D has been in the news a lot lately. Why is Vitamin D so important?
A. We can make our own vitamin D from exposure to sunlight or consume it in foods. Our long ago ancestors use to walk this earth relatively naked in the sun all day long and lived near the equator, so our bodies learned how to produce high amounts of vitamin D and handle very high potencies of these nutrients. But now, most people cover up from the sun and use suntan lotion that blocks Vitamin D production, and they do not eat enough of the foods that provide Vitamin D. It is now felt most North Americans are deficient in Vitamin D. This deficiency or low consumption has been linked to health concerns as serious as cancer, heart disease, diabetes complications, auto-immune disorders such as MS and arthritis, and bone disease (osteoporosis, hip fracture). Other symptoms related to low Vitamin D are S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder), depression, basic immune function, weight gain, muscle weakness and insomnia.
Q. Since we can make our own Vitamin D from sunlight, why do I need a supplement?
A. With the fear of skin cancer, most people cover up from the sun and/or use suntan lotion that can block an amazing 95% or more of Vitamin D production. Plus smog/pollution, cloudiness, and seasonal sun exposure can also reduce sunlight exposure. Also, many people do not eat enough of the foods that provide Vitamin D such as fish and beef liver. Extra vitamin D is also recommended for older adults since they have a problem making Vitamin D from sunlight exposure. People with dark skin have reduced ability to produce Vitamin D from sunlight exposure and also should consider supplementation.
Q. Is Vitamin D safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
A. In general, the ingredients are deemed safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but it is recommended that you check with your health care practitioner to determine the safe dosage levels for you specifically.
Q. Does this product contain gluten or other allergens?
A. All of our Basic Booster products including D3 1000 are gluten-free. Please check the label for the allergen disclaimer. If it states “free from wheat” or “gluten”, this indicates the product does not contain gluten. See the ingredients listing to view the list of allergens/ingredients not contained in the product.
Q. Will I get too much of some nutrients if I take D3 1000 with my Nu-Life Multivitamin?
